Time For Turbo: The 2021 Mazda CX-30 Will Be Available With The Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo

What are you to do if you want a meaningful dollop of performance on top of your small crossover cake? You choose the 2021 Mazda CX-30 Turbo.

Until now, unless you've been willing to spend well in excess of $50,000 on a trad premium brand, there were no options. From the Hyundai Kona and Toyota C-HR to the Buick Encore, Jeep Renegade, Ford EcoSport, Chevrolet Trax, Mitsubishi RVR, and Subaru Crosstrek, more power just isn't on the options sheet.

For the CX-30's second model year, the engine that's standard on the flagship three-row CX-9 (and optional on the CX-5 and Mazda 6) will now be available under the hood of the hot-selling CX-30. This is a treat for the senses. It's a neck-snapping torque monster that still returns outstanding fuel economy. It's everything other small crossovers aren't

Here are the official specifications for the Skyactiv-G Dynamic Pressure Turbo.

Engine Type Intercooled turbo inline four cylinder
Displacement 2,488 cc (2.5 litre)
Valve train DOHC 16-valve
Compression Ratio 10.5:1
Redline 6,300 rpm
Maximum Horsepower 250 (227 on regular fuel) @ 5,000 rpm
Maximum Torque 320 lb-ft (310 on regular fuel) @ 2,500 rpm
Transmission 6-speed automatic

The CX-30 Turbo is expected to be available in the early weeks of 2021, one year after the CX-30 arrived to critical acclaim and marketplace success. Full trim line specification and pricing will be available in the coming weeks. This will be a strikingly well-equipped vehicle with features such as 12-speaker Bose audio, an 8.8-inch centre display, and advanced i-Activsense safety tech.
