This Is What The 2023 Honda Civic Type R Will Look Like

Honda is blatantly displaying the 11th-generation Civic in Type R form at Germany's famous Nürburgring track in the western part of the country. This is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R, albeit covered in enough funky camo that we can't quite piece it all together.

Type R is a legendary badge in the history of Honda. That red logo speaks volumes about the performance orientation of the car to which it's applied. It means there's something special under the hood. It means the suspension is aggressively tuned for unbelievable grip. It means the seats are going to hug you. It means the exhaust bellow is going to wake your neighbours. Honda doesn't slap a Type R badge on just any car and call it a day – this is serious business.

That's why the 11th-generation Civic is being developed in part at the most challenging race track in the world, the Nürburgring.

Only a small handful of Honda and Acura vehicles have ever worn the Type R badge. The most recent, of course, was the hatchback version of the 10th-generation Civic, a 306-horsepower weapon that was as exceptional in ordinary daily circumstances as it was on the Nürburgring, where it broke the record for the fastest front-wheel-drive car in 2017. We don't yet have many details about the next-generation Civic Type R, but there is a fair degree of certainty that it will be available yet again in the newly introduced hatchback bodystyle with a manual transmission. The Civic Type R will be officially unveiled in all its glory in 2022.
