Honda Canada Is Now 50 Years Old

We know what it's like to turn 40. 2019 marks the Centennial Auto Group's 40th anniversary.

50, however, is a whole 'nuther ball game. On March 11, 2019, Honda Canada marked 50 years since incorporating in 1969, a remarkable achievement for a company that kickstarted with one model: the Civic.

Here are some key facts in Honda's five decades of Canadian history.

  • 1969: Honda Canada is incorporated
  • 1973: Honda begins selling the Civic in Canada
  • 1986: Honda begins manufacturing the Accord in Alliston, Ontario
  • 1987: Honda launches Acura in Canada
  • 1991: Honda sells its one-millionth vehicle in Canada
  • 1998: Honda opens a second Alliston facility to build the Odyssey
  • 2000: Honda launches the first hybrid vehicle in Canada,the first-generation Insight
  • 2008: Honda begins assembling 4-cylinder engines in Canada
  • 2014: Honda Canada sells its four-millionth vehicle
  • 2017: Honda Canada's Alliston plant builds its eight-millionth vehicle
  • 2018: The Honda Civic celebrates its 21st consecutive year asCanada's best-selling car
  • 2019: Honda Canada turns 50
