According To Consumer Reports, The Mazda MX-5 Miata Is The Most Reliable Sports Car On The Market

And then there were 10. But only one was a sports car.

Every year, Consumer Reports releases a list of the 10 most reliable vehicles on the market. It's not an arbitrary list. To find its results, Consumer Reports receives data on more than 500,000 vehicles. Consumer Reports studies 17 "trouble areas," including transmissions and brakes and interior trim. This isn't just a study that takes into account a vehicle's first 90 days. No, the Consumer Reports National Research Center conducts a survey of vehicles from 2000 to 2018. (Consumer Reports explains their methodology here.)

In 2018, Consumer Reports data declares the Mazda MX-5 Miata the most reliable sports car on the market.

Released as a fourth-generation "ND" for the 2016 model year, the MX-5 range has grown to include the RF model, a Miata with a retractable targa top. For 2019, the MX-5 makes significant gains in power, taking what was an already quick car and making it downright swift. Better in seemingly every way than prior Miatas, the latest MX-5 is noticeably safer, more efficient, more agile, more luxurious, and more comfortable than Miatas were in the past. And it's gorgeous.

The Miata has remained affordable, as well. Adjusted for inflation, the entry-level 1990 Mazda Miata was a $31,542 car. The new Miata is priced from $32,900, a mere 4% increase for a car that includes far more equipment, produces far greater speed, and passes far more rigid crash safety tests.
