2018 Mazda CX-5 Earns Top Safety Pick+ Rating From IIHS, The Only SUV In Its Class To Do So

Available with blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, distance recognition support system, forward obstruction warning, high beam control, hill launch assist, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, radar cruise control with stop-and-go, smart city brake support, and smart brake support, the 2018 Mazda CX5 is now the only small SUV in its category to earn a Top Safety Pick Plus rating from the independent non-profit Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

When equipped with adaptive front lighting, which is standard on the CX-5 GT, the 2018 CX-5 earns the necessary ratings in a variety of crash tests needed to become an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. To receive Top Safety Pick+ credentials, a vehicle needs good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, head restraint tests; plus an acceptable or good rating in the new passenger-side small overlap front test; plus an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention; plus a good headlight rating.

In other words, a vehicle doesn't become a Top Safety Pick+ by fluke. Advanced engineering, technological breakthroughs, and a commitment to research and development are all necessary to reach the desired goal: maximum safety for Mazda drivers.
