2018 Nissan Kicks white

The 2018 Nissan Kicks only began trickling into Centennial Nissan's two outlets - in Summerside and Charlottetown - on June 21, but the Kicks has quickly found its first handful of Island owners, including Fr. Chris Sherren in Summerside.

It's an early hit for Nissan Canada, which now offers a massive SUV/crossover lineup that starts with the Kicks and moves up through the Qashqai, Rogue, Murano, Pathfinder, and Armada. These vehicles accounted for more than 60 percent of Nissan Canada's sales during the first five months of 2018.

But why is the Kicks such an appealing answer to the crossover question? Let the critics tell you.

Car And Driver: "There's some neat design at work, good utility, and even some fun in this thing. It perfectly reflects what the world wants right now."

The Globe And Mail: "Imperfections in the road were nearly imperceptible, thanks to a front independent strut, stabilizer bar suspension matched with rear suspension featuring twist beam, stabilizer bar and twin-tube shock absorbers."

Motor Trend: "In fact, the Kicks' 7.6/6.5 L/100km city/highway beats every crossover or crossover-like hatch in this price range."

AutoTrader: "With its combination of reasonable price and list of features, I can see this Kicks kicking some butt in the compact crossover segment."

CNET: "A small, flat-bottomed steering wheel produces a relatively quick steering ratio that's weighted nicely. On-center accuracy is excellent."

Driving.ca: "While base models are usually included in a lineup to attract buyers with their low price, they are usually sparsely equipped, forcing buyers to upgrade to a higher trim level if they desire some basic convenience features. This isn't the case with the Kicks; it's very well equipped, even starting from the base model."

AutoWeek: "The ride quality is quite good over broken pavement, and in every direction, the view out is expansive. That cannot be said about certain Kicks competitors, like the Toyota C-HR."

AutoGuide: "The Kicks also provides ample space for passengers, with tons of headroom in both rows. The back bench is large enough to easily accommodate a pair of six-foot-tall individuals without complaint, a major achievement for a vehicle this small."

Autoblog: "Considering the entire package, it's our new favorite bargain in the compact crossover segment."

And then there's the Kicks-specific Bose audio system.
