THE NISSAN IMX KURO IS NOT YOUR NEXT NISSAN, BUT IT'S PROBABLY THE FUTURE

2018 Nissan IMx KURO

Nissan's concept car belief: go big, or go home.

The entire philosophy behind the concept car is to consider new concepts, to make consumers aware of an automaker's thinking, to feed off consumer reaction to different approaches. Nissan, therefore, doesn't display a muted collection of thinly veiled production cars at globally important auto shows.

Rather, Nissan unveils dramatic interpretations of the future. The Nissan IMx KURO that was just unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland is, consequently, not merely a rough idea of what the next Nissan Rogue willl look like.

Instead, the Nissan IMx KURO is one potential view into the zero-emission, autonomous, connected future.

Yet there are strong connections to the present.

The IMx KURO relies upon a more thoroughly developed version of ProPILOT that's already available in a variety of Nissans, including the 2018 Rogue SL Platinum and the all-new, second-generation Nissan LEAF that just arrived at Centennial Nissan of Charlottetown. Of course, the IMx KURO takes ProPILOT multiple steps further by actually stowing the steering wheel inside the dashboard - and reclining the seats - when fully autonomous ProPILOT drive mode is selected. The IMx KURO also B2V communication will also make it easier - and quicker - for the vehicle to alert drivers to potential dangers.

On the powertrain front, the Nissan IMx KURO's dual electric motors provide all-wheel drive and 516 lb-ft of torque. That's more torque than you'll find in a Nissan GT-R. Plus, there's 600 kilometres of zero emissions range.

A stunning interior with katanagare-patterned, laser-etched seats and head rests which use kumiki - Japanese interlocking wood puzzles - add all sorts of flair, proving that the future will not be without style or elegance.

For now, however, the Nissan IMx KURO is exclusively owned by the future. But the future isn't quite as far away as it used to be.
