As part of Nissan's M.O.V.E. to 2022, Nissan intends to sell 1 million electrified vehicles annually by the year 2022. That will require building on the reputation of the Nissan Leaf as a global electric best seller.

There will eventually be eight new pure electric vehicles, an onslaught of electric cars in China, an electric mini-car in Japan, and an all-electric crossover based on the Nissan IMx Concept. Furthermore, Nissan will double down on autonomous driving technology - already seen in various forms with ProPilot technology in vehicles like the Nissan Rogue - with 20 different ProPilot models in 20 markets by 2022.

These are investments Nissan believes will pay off by increasing annualized revenue by 30 percent by the end of 2022. Enhancing the prevalence of Nissan's e-power models, which have seen huge increases in popularity in Japan and employ a unique hybrid system, will build on Nissan's existing presence in the global EV market.

Nissan's chief planning officer Philippe Klein says, "We have more EV customers than any other automaker."

"You can count on us to defend our leadership."

This is the future at Nissan, but in many ways the future is already here. The second-generation Nissan Leaf is already on sale at Centennial Nissan of Charlottetown, and it's attracting quite a lot of attention.
